Why do I drink herbal teas? Here are my five favorites!

I drink herbal teas for many different reasons. Some are a selfish indulgence, brewed simply to delight my tastebuds (rose petal tea, anyone?). My favorites in order are: Lavender, Rose, and Jasmine, but some have been helpful beyond complex floral notes. Here are my five favorite medicinal herbal teas.

  1. When my anxiety starts to rumble and upsets my stomach, I make a cup of chamomile tea. If I'm anxious and trying to sleep, I might drink two cups. (Bonus: lavender tea isn't just delicious; it's also relaxing!)
  2. Speaking of relaxing, in addition to lavender being calming, a hot cup of linden flower tea is helpful. If it's accompanied by an upset stomach, this tea packs a one-two punch to what makes you momentarily (or more often) miserable.
  3. Ginger is another broadly known tea that soothes an upset, nauseous, or gassy stomach.
  4. I get kidney stones (a/k/a the 'rolling stones') and I drink nettle tea to keep them from rocking and rolling. I've heard nettle tea assists in preventing stone formation so I can't be sure that the nettle is a boulder buster but I'll take an ounce of prevention over a pound of cure.
  5. Calendula is another powerful herb (more flower power!)  that I decoct and drink as an all-purpose tonic. Though research has been limited, much anecdotal data exists suggesting that Calendula could alleviate issues and symptoms related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn's Disease, diverticulitis, etc.
